Council Information
Winter Maintenance
Grit salt bins located throughout the village to be used by the public as and when needed.
Black bins are maintained by Wrotham Parish Council. These are filled before the start of season, checked on a regular basis and refilled where necessary throughout. The parish bins are unlocked by a nominated person.
To report a BLACK bin as empty please contact the parish clerk with the location of the bin.
NOTE: The council does not employ staff or contractors to grit roads or paths. This is the publics responsibility. Wrotham Parish Council does not get government funding towards winter maintenance. WPC have a small gritter that needs to be towed by a robust 4-wheel drive vehicle that is suitably insured. At this time WPC does not have access to such a vehicle or the financial resources to purchase, run and maintain a 4×4. Therefore the council owned gritter cannot be used at this time.
KCC Highways is the primary responder as they have depots filled with salt and fleets of vehicles at their disposal with employees on standby for cold weather. They get government funding to provide this service. They have set criteria in place for gritting operations covering
- all A and B class roads
- busy commuter routes
- other roads that can become hazardous in frosty or icy conditions.
Yellow & Green bins are maintained & refilled by KCC. To report a YELLOW or GREEN empty bin please visit https://webapps.kent.gov.uk/KCC.KHSFaultsGIS
