Hedges & Bird Nesting
In the UK, the bird nesting season typically runs from March to August. During this time, it is an offence under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 to intentionally damage, destroy, or disturb an active wild bird’s nest while it is in use or being built.
WPC & KCC grounds maintenance contractors do not start annual Hedgerow maintenance until August in line with the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.
Weeds on Pavements and Kerbs are typically the responsibility of
- The local borough or district council (Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council – https://www.tmbc.gov.uk/homepage/25/report-a-problem-with-us-online) depending on the exact location,
- Or the land/homeowner if they are growing directly out of a driveway, garden or boundary wall.
Overgrown Hedges and Trees from private property obstructing a road or pathway are the responsibility of the land/homeowner or occupier.
If you have a specific weed or overgrowth issue outside your home, you can report the exact location to your local authority. Depending on where you live in the UK, you can use the GOV.UK Report a Problem with a Pavement tool
