Positive Welbeing

Building connection and reducing loneliness across Kent

Positive Wellbeing is delivered through our Community Warden Service and focuses on tackling loneliness and social isolation. Wardens provide a listening ear and signpost people to the support they need, making a real difference to residents across Kent.

By working closely with a variety of partners and supporting organisations, the Wardens take a hands‑on, proactive approach to reducing loneliness. This work plays an important role in preventing issues from escalating and helps reduce pressure on wider health and social care services.

Prevention starts with connection, and our Wardens bring this to life every day.

Positive Wellbeing is currently available only in areas supported by a Community Warden, but we are working to expand the service so more residents can benefit.

KCC Active Travel Business Grants 2025

KCC Active Travel Business Grants 2025, the pilot of an innovative funding initiative designed to supercharge sustainable commuting across Kent. This grant programme empowers Kent businesses to champion active travel by investing in infrastructure and supporting measures that encourage walking, wheeling, and cycling for both staff and customers. The window to apply for funding is now open until the 24 October 2025.

As the demand for greener, healthier travel options continues to grow, Kent’s business community is uniquely positioned to lead the charge. The grants will prioritise companies that actively support and promote active travel for staff and customers, plus are located adjacent to new and improved walking and cycling routes.

The business must qualify as a:

  • small business
  • or a not-for-profit organisation
  • or an NHS community facility such as a doctor’s surgery (not hospital sites).

The business must have a site in Kent (not Medway) and employ at least 2 staff members.

  • We are looking for organisations who are committed to reshaping their travel culture by supporting staff and customers to travel more sustainably, plus identifying what facilities are needed to encourage active travel. This could include installing high quality cycle parking facilities, supplying lockers and showers for staff, pool bikes and electric hook-ups for e-bike charging or innovative facilities to support staff and customers in walking, wheeling, or cycling to access the business.

This initiative marks a pivotal step in Kent’s journey toward a sustainable future. It is a chance to spotlight companies and local organisations making bold moves to rethink transport, reduce congestion, improve health, and improve local air quality for their staff and customers. From boutique retail hubs to major industrial parks, this grant program is transforming how Kent moves—one commute at a time.

All details about the scheme and a link to register an application is available here: Active Travel Business Grants – Kent County Council.

Parkinson’s UK

Parkinson’s UK is the charity that drives better care, treatments and quality of life for those affected by Parkinson’s. We have a UK-wide network of friendly local advisers and each covers a different local area. We can assist whether a person has the condition themselves, is a carer, friend or family member of someone with Parkinson’s or is an agency involved with the care of someone affected by Parkinson’s.

We can help if someone:

  • is looking for advice and information
  • is looking for tips on how to deal with the day-to-day impact of Parkinson’s
  • needs emotional support, whether they have a Parkinson’s diagnosis, are a carer, or a family member/friend
  • wants to find out more about the services available in their area
  • wants to learn about their rights and entitlements
  • needs help navigating the benefits process
  • needs information on where to find grants and financial help
  • is looking for support on employment issues
  • needs support with anything else relating to their life with Parkinson’s

We are here so that no-one has to face Parkinson’s alone.

We are contactable via adviser.southeast@parkinsons.org.uk or via telephone on 0344 225 3793.

Parkinson’s UK provides free leaflets on a range of topics linked to Parkinson’s. If you would like us to forward a selection to you, please don’t hesitate in letting us know.
